Hadiza Musa, 25 years old, has been through hell. As a bubbly fun-loving teenager, she marries the impulsive Abdurrazaq Zanna, known as AR, and for eight years she suffers starvation, rape, and mental abuse from an increasingly obsessive husband. The death of her beloved father followed by the death of her beloved son brings things to a head. Hadiza determines for a divorce just as AR insists they are meant for each other forever. Thus, begins a battle for survival in which scars come to light and allies come from unexpected places.

About the Author

Amaka Azuike is a professor of African Literature and Women’s Studies with the Department of English, University of Jos, and was the Department’s immediate past Head. She is a novelist and a poet who has over twenty-five years of professional work experience in lecturing at the university level. She is the author of Campus Blues, Gentle Giants and co-author of Tides of Time.

Violated is her first collection of short stories. Her creative works are a quest for self-autonomy for all her female protagonists who she depicts as vulnerable and are more susceptible to gender oppression and violence. She is an advocate of comprehensive sexuality education which empowers young adults to make responsible choices in life. Her writings also tend to cast a satiric light on the cultural norms that exist to repress female potentialities.

Amaka Azuike (Nee Mazeli) hails from Onitsha in Anambra State, Nigeria, but lives in Jos. She actively mentors the youth; particularly the females and is a staunch advocate of equal rights, transparency, justice and fairness. In her spare time, she loves travelling and listening to sentimental music.
